Resare rug pads
Twenty four sizes of felt pad, from a 2 x 5 runner to a 9 x 12 room. Each one is listed with its thickness and with what it costs per square foot, because that is the figure that makes two sizes comparable.
Cut the pad an inch smaller than the rug on every side. Felt takes a straight cut with heavy scissors and does not fray, so a 6 x 9 pad becomes a 5 x 8 without a trip to a workshop.

Which side goes up?
The felt face goes up, against the rug. The grip face goes down, against the floor.
Can a pad go under a rug on carpet?
It can, and it stops a small rug creeping on a low pile. On a deep pile the rug will still move, whatever sits under it.
Does the pad need to breathe?
Lift the rug and the pad twice a year and let the floor dry, especially in a room that gets mopped.
